ABATRON DESIGNED PADDLEBOARD MAKES BIG SPLASH

Written by ABATRON | June 1, 2013 | Projects and Innovations

Epoxy products have a long history in marine applications. We recently had an opportunity to add to those applications by designing a paddleboard for The Key West Paddleboard Classic.  The twelve mile saltwater race around Key West, Florida gave us the chance to test our composite resin systems which incorporate custom formulated epoxy resins, carbon fiber, and other high-performance materials.  The 12 ft. board was out-fitted with a fin box, Gore-Tex vents, and traction pads, and finished with an epoxy clear coat.

On the day of the race the wind was heavy and waves were 3 to 5 ft.  However, the Abatron, Inc. paddleboard turned out to be the most stable board on the water.  While other riders fell off their boards numerous times and some resorted to paddling on their knees, the Abatron, Inc. rider finished the race with few slippage problems.  Since the race the rider has also used the board for yoga , fishing, and exploring the shores of the Keys.
