Terminating Termite Damage

Written by Richard | January 8, 2015 | Dealer/Customer Spotlights

CCS Restoration- Sanford, FL

According to www.termites.com, termites damage over 600,000 homes in the United States every year, resulting in billions of dollars in repair costs and preventative actions.  CCS Restoration in Sanford, Florida, specializes in full service restoration of wood windows and doors in an area known for its active population of the wood-eating-pests.

Jodi Rubin, owner of CCS, recently sent us pictures showing us how LiquidWood® and WoodEpox® are utilized for restoring wood doors that have been eaten away by tiny termites.

These immaculate doors are from an Italian Renaissance style house built around 1926.  They are situated on a north facing wall on a lakefront property in Orlando.  They withstood decades of exposure to the elements, but they are made of Douglas fir, which is not exceptionally resistant to termites.

Termites cause extensive damage and leave piles of waste behind!

The dark finish and glossy coating on the doors helped hide the damage, but once the CCS carpenters began poking the surface of the wood, pockets and holes known as “galleries” were exposed which were filled with termite waste.  A thorough inspection also uncovered five galleries filled with live termites.

Once the inspection was complete and the termites were removed, LiquidWood firmed up the softened areas and consolidated the tiny holes and tunnels created by the insects.  WoodEpox rebuilt the profiles and filled in the large voids.

WoodEpox is applied, shaped, and then sanded.

After the epoxy cured, Tim-bor®, a boron based wood preservative was applied.  This product repels termites and fungus, helping to prevent further damage to the doors.  After priming, a faux finish was applied, completing the restoration process.
